Medicating dog for anxiety to help his bad behavior with the hope of preventing biting, will it work?

I have a consultation with a specialist today who wants to eval. all his behavior then see if medicating him will help. What I really would like to know is if anyone has gone through this proceedure and followed the plan to the letter and still had to put the dog to sleep for biting a person or killing another animal.
