Why is John McCain still fighting a losing battle of preventing the repealing of Don't Ask, Don't Tell?

Because someone has to step up and be the bad guy when our grandchildren are studying this topic in history cl. How can children learn from our mistakes if they don't have an example of someone who wound up on the wrong side? McCain is simply taking one for the team.
