Whats the diffrence between the Spectre Gunship and the Spooky Gunship?
Spooky was the original gunship, it was an AC-47 (converted C-47 transport of WW II vintage) and had three side firing 7.63mm mini-guns, each gun firing approx. 6000 rounds a minute. The Spectre is a modified C-130 Hercules, with improved night sights, IR equipment and different armament. Most Spectre's in use now have two 25mm mini-guns forward of the wing, one 40mm Borfors gun (famous anti-aircraft gun mounted on US warships in WW II), and one 105mm cannon, with the last two weapons mounted aft of the wing. Various combinations of weapons have been carried throughout it's long history, originally it was armed with 20mm Vulcan mini-guns and 7.62's, or two 20mm's and two 40mm's, but with new weapons and technology changes are constantly being made, especially in the electronics area, also, the AC-130 Spectre is larger than the Spooky, so can carry more guns and ammo as well as more equipment, fly farther, is capable of in-flight refueling and the Air Force will soon introduce a new model of the C-130, the C-130J with different engines and flight deck.
